In every woman we find a natural and wild being, a secret powerful force modeled by instincts, passionate creativity and ancestral knowledge.

Over the centuries history tried to repress this "woman", crushing, channelling  into a stereotype of submission. 

Clarissa Pinkola Estés, in a famous essay on the theme of 1992, wrote “We grew our hair long and used it to hide our feelings”.

In my project I started from the study of Estés’s archetype of the "wild woman", that we also find in the cantadoras myths and fairy tales. I discovered that this woman is similar to the wolf for her playful spirit, her devotion, her wandering soul.

Instead, the term wild, in common language, refers to the idea of ​​an untamed space, not reached by civilization, or an animal that lives in a free state.

I search for this figure in life…she is as precious as threatened by a suffocating civilization... Then I found the free wolf-woman, a courageous one, healthy, robust, full of energy, capable of giving life and defending the territory , creative, loyal, wandering creature. In this research I started from the place I know better, a small town on the slopes of Florence where I have lived 25 years and where I’ve been working for 10 years. Here I found women who are mothers, who are witches, who are wonderful beings made of the beauty of light and the fury of the storm: Caterina, Lucasta, Giulia.

Three women who do not follow the patterns, who talk to the trees and lie down on the ground with their legs in the sky. Three women who are aware of their femininity and do not fear it. An actress who teaches children; an androgynous and sensitive woman; a creative, restorer and stylist.

 

In each of these women "no matter where they are, the shadow that trots behind them is definitely four-footed”.
